What Is XAT?
Overview of the Exam
XAT is a computer-based test that checks your decision-making ability, verbal and logical skills and quantitative aptitude. It is known for its unique Decision Making section, which tests judgement in real-life business and ethical situations.

Important Dates and Schedule
Typical Admission Cycle
The XAT cycle usually follows a fixed pattern every year: registration opens in the second half of the year, the exam is held in the first few weeks of the new year, and results are declared within a few weeks of the exam. Colleges then begin their own application and selection rounds.

XAT Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates should hold a recognised bachelor’s degree of at least three years’ duration, or an equivalent qualification, in any discipline. Students who are completing their final examination before the cut-off date given in the notification can also apply.
NRI and Foreign Candidates
Separate provisions may exist for NRI and foreign candidates, such as acceptance of other test scores in some cases. Read the latest official notification to confirm the current rule.
Minimum Marks and Age Limit

XAT Exam Pattern
Mode and Duration
XAT is a computer-based test with a fixed time limit. The official information bulletin confirms the exact duration and structure every time.
Sections in the Paper
The paper typically includes Decision Making, Verbal and Logical Ability, and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. A General Knowledge section and an essay writing task are also part of the process, and colleges use them at the selection stage.
Marking Scheme

XAT Syllabus
Decision Making
This section presents business and ethical situations and asks you to choose the best decision. It tests judgement, analytical thinking and values rather than formulas.
Verbal and Logical Ability
Topics include reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, para-jumbles, critical reasoning, arrangements, puzzles and logical sets.
Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
Expect arithmetic, algebra, geometry, number systems, percentages, ratios, time and work, and data tables and charts.
General Knowledge
Questions come from current affairs, business and economy, history, polity and important events.
Essay Writing
You write a short essay on a given topic. Colleges often review it during their final selection process.
